Forty minutes of nothing but a hot towel and a steady hand.
The classic shave is the one service where we go deliberately slow. Three hot towels, a hand-lathered cream, a two-pass shave with a Dovo straight razor, an alum block, and a balm finish. Most people fall asleep around minute twelve.
The straight-razor shave is the oldest service on the menu and our least busy in absolute terms - but our most consistently re-booked. Grooms before weddings, fathers after long flights, regulars who treat themselves to one a month.
The full forty minutes
- A hot towel placed and replaced three times to lift the beard and soften the skin.
- A pre-shave oil and a hand-lathered cream applied with a badger brush.
- The first pass: with the grain. A second hot towel.
- A re-lather and a second pass: across the grain. Never against unless you specifically ask for it.
- An alum block on the neck and jaw to settle any irritation.
- A cooling aftershave balm and a cold towel to close the pores.
Aftercare
Skip strong fragrances and harsh soaps for the next six hours. The shave will be at its closest the morning after. We recommend a classic shave no more than once every ten to fourteen days - beyond that, sensitive skin starts to register the work.
